4 Notable Legal Software Updates You Might have Missed

Updates to LexisNexis Business and Litigation Software

Over the last several month the legal software solutions division has released software enhancements to several product lines.  For those that missed it here’s an at-a-glance view of the most recent updates:

1. New eDiscovery platform goes GA

Originally announced at the 2016 Legaltech NY tradeshow, the legal software solution division has rolled out the product for general availability (GA).  The new Lexis® DiscoveryIQ platform disrupts the conventional eDiscovery workflow by placing an emphasis on early case assessment and the use of advanced visual analytics. The benefits for litigation teams are earlier insight into litigation data, better litigation strategies and reduced costs.

“Linear review used to be the solution to eDiscovery,” said Tess Blair, partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in the GA announcement. “It’s now the problem. It’s inefficient, very expensive and inaccurate. The paradigm has to shift to better reflect the technologies we have today and how we can achieve better outcomes in eDiscovery.”

LexisNexis teamed up with Brainspace Corp., a recognized leader in data analysis, to embed visual analytics in the new product.

“With Lexis DiscoveryIQ, LexisNexis and Brainspace are challenging the status quo,” according to Ryan Bilbrey, managing director of OmniVere, LLC, and a member of panel of advisers for development. “Disruption is a term that’s tossed around almost callously in legal technology circles these days, but in this case, here is a team that has reimagined the eDiscovery process to help litigation teams achieve vastly better results.”

2. Law Cloud Meet Accounting Cloud

The software team rolled out integration between the LexisNexis Firm Manager® practice management platform and the Intuit® QuickBooks® Online accounting software. Both products are cloud-based and this integration was a high priority request from existing customers.

The benefits are straight forward according to Whitney Pesot, senior product manager, for the LexisNexis Firm Manager team. “This integration benefits Firm Manager customers by eliminating an extra step in managing the finances of their firm and reduces the risk of manual errors,” she said.

The product was named “best practice management software” by Legaltech News and has earned the top spot in the in National Law Journal “Best of 2015” awards.  Independent reviews of the product have been published TechnoLawyer, Attorney at Work and Lawyerist.

The product is designed for solo and small law firms and is priced at $49.00 per month.  Additional user access can be added for a monthly subscription $29.99 per user. 3. New eDiscovery Desktop Review

For 70,000 litigation professionals that have used the Concordance® desktop solution for eDiscovery review, the product has been a reliable workhorse. In January, that workhorse started providing faster and easier review:

The new Concordance Desktop application is a vastly improved all-in-one review solution – for small-to-medium cases in litigation, according to product manager Wil Cummings. He points out the new product unifies several separate modules and applications, which were previously part of the Concordance product suite, into one comprehensive eDiscovery review solution. This unified review eliminates the requirement to administer up to five separate products to gain the benefits of each product.

The new product also shows cases “multi-core” processing and “hyper-threading.”  Absent tech speak what this boils down to for attorneys and eDiscovery pros is that the new Concordance tool allows users to process more data and do it faster.  Mr. Cummings also discusses remote access, easy importing, flex pricing and the admin console here: 5 New Benefits in Concordance Desktop for Small Law Firms.

4. Enhanced Case Analysis Software

One of the pioneering products in the case analysis software niche was the LexisNexis CaseMap® solution. The product brings together the relevant facts, documents, cast of characters and issues of each case – as well as legal and investigative research – into a centralized repository for improved case assessment.

In March the team unveiled version 12.1 which included new features for easier navigation, redaction and improvements to the email plugin among others: 5 Things to Know About the New CaseMap Version 12.1.

These enhancements come on the heels of a long list of improvements to the CaseMap product. In August 2015, the team integrated legal research into the product and added eDiscovery to version 12 a month later.  A short 20 minute video recording is available to walk those interested in the newest advancements.

  • March 2016: Gartner Report Predicts Spike in Law Dept. Tech Spending. LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, is making available a complimentary copy of a new report from Gartner, Inc. – Market Guide for Enterprise Legal Management Solutions. The LexisNexis CounselLink platform is mentioned in the report – as a representative vendor – in which “Gartner predicts that the adoption of purpose-built ELM solutions will grow and accelerate. By 2020, the current 20% adoption rate could move up to 50%,” according to the report.
  • January 2016: LexisNexis Expands Software Channel Partner Program. LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, announced today it has vastly refined and expanded its channel partner program for legal software solutions and hosting. The initiative provides channel partners with greater access to technical and sales training, customer relationship information, and also offers new quote and deal registration capabilities to give channel partners added control throughout the sales cycle. The newly-launched initiative consolidates and formalizes multiple initiatives into a single comprehensive partner program managed by the software and technology division of LexisNexis Legal & Professional, based in the Raleigh Technology Center.
