Corporate Endurance:  LexisNexis enlists for IRONMAN Raleigh

by | May 12, 2014

First, LexisNexis went back to school.  Now it’s supporting an extreme race of endurance.

As the IRONMAN® 70.3® triathlon returns to Raleigh for the second straight year, LexisNexis has signed on as the event’s title sponsor.  However, it’s not just about sponsorship since 20+ LexisNexis employees form the North Carolina office are competing in the race.

We made an official announcement on Friday:  LexisNexis Embraces a Test of Endurance; Enlists as Title Sponsor for IRONMAN 70.3 Raleigh.

“More than 20 members of our LexisNexis team have signed up for this IRONMAN 70.3 event  and even if most of us never reach IRONMAN level, getting and staying healthy has become a core part of our LexisNexis Raleigh culture,” noted BJ Schaknowski, vice president of Sales and Professional Services, at LexisNexis Business of Law Software Solutions (BLSS) division. Even more employees, who are not competing in the race, will be actively supporting the event through volunteer work at an aid station, water points and other volunteer activities.”

Mr. Schnaknowski is the executive sponsor for the LexisNexis team – and comes with experience:  He’s competed in five IRONMAN competitions and completed three as the Triangle Business Journal noted and he regularly runs marathons.  For example, your humble correspondent observed Mr. Schnaknowski hobbling around the local office this year, the day after the Boston Marathon.

Growing Roots in Raleigh; Looking for Talent

The IRONMAN competition coincides with the office move to NC State’s Centennial Campus.  LexisNexis is nearing the final stages of relocating employees.

“Making our move to Raleigh and rapidly expanding our hiring to support our growth is critical to our future success.  Hiring great talent takes a strong local brand and presence,” noted Michael Lipps, the senior LexisNexis executive in the NC office, in an email to employees.  “This event, not unlike many others we sponsor throughout the year, is a great opportunity to announce to the Triangle area that LexisNexis is here in a BIG way!”

As of the time of this writing, the LexisNexis local careers page indicates 60+ open positions in North Carolina.  IRONMAN demographics suggest upwards of 95% of participants are college educated – and as their extra-curricular activity suggests – also demonstrate perseverance, dedication and a competitive edge.

Promoting some of our Favorite Local Charities

LexisNexis has a long history of getting active in the local community and as the LexisNexis team competing in this year’s IRONMAN indicates – getting active often means corporate philanthropy means more than just writing a check.

Through a program called Cares, which is aimed at encouraging employee volunteerism, the local LexisNexis offices are actively involved with several local charities. As part of the overall IRONMAN event, the following non-profit organizations will be on hand with us in a booth inside the Raleigh Convention Center.

The convention center is located about a block away from the finish line, so if you attend the event, come on by to chat with someone about working at LexisNexis or getting involved with one of these charities.

Finally, we’d like to wish all of this year’s competitors good luck and a safe event!
