At the 2014 LegalTech trade show the LexisNexis Firm Manager team had a chance to sponsor the blogger’s breakfast and a short panel discussion by some of the most prominent bloggers in the legal industry. The session was filmed and we recently obtained a copy from ALM and have uploaded it to our YouTube channel and embedded it here:
The Panelists
Introductions (starts at 3:20) include:
- Kevin O’Keefe of LexBlog and Real Lawyers have Blogs
- Bob Ambrogi of LawSites Blog
- Vivia Chen of The Careerist
- Christopher T. Anderson of LexisNexis Firm Manager
- Loretta Ruppert of LexisNexis Firm Manager
- Moderated by Jeffrey Litvack, Chief Digital Officer, ALM
Law Cloud Discussion
The discussion about the law cloud (starts at 6:15) and covers points including:
- Adoption of the law cloud. Roughly 40% of lawyers are using the cloud, according to a recent law cloud survey, though it’s likely more lawyers are using cloud services without realizing it. Moreover the fundamental shift in cloud adoption is that the questions are shifting from ‘can I use the cloud?’ to ‘how do I use the cloud?’
- Lawyers and cloud ethics. Several state bar associations have provided ethics opinions – not a single state has disavowed the cloud – but due diligence is an ethical requirement.
- Cloud security concerns. Security concerns are arguably unfounded given vendors hosting these services have a far greater security capabilities than most individual law firms.
Legal Blog Discussion
The discussion about the legal blawgs and blogs (starts at 11:15) and covers points including:
- Generating blog ideas. How do bloggers come up with a new topic every day? Over time bloggers tend to fall into a rhythm. A major challenge is keeping the topic fresh.
- Law blogs are conversations. One of the most important parts of blogging is listening – reading, understanding and participating in the market conversation. Blogging is akin to networking in that it’s a chance to meet new people.
